Sweating Out Them Jungle Blues

Who Said the Devil Only Likes Metal? Might Be In the Jungle With the Blues!

My record collection is strange at times. I can play Thorns, or Enslaved then, move to Dead Can Dance, to music from Java and Syria, back to Hardcore from Brooklyn and then over to Redd Kross or Mudhoney, to Slayer and High on Fire. There’s no stopping me! It is one very unpredictable record collection and I feel like posting something off the beaten track here. CW Stoneking is that eccentric, whiskey throated jungle blues guy, who has a nice way of telling stories in his songs. Go listen at the link below as soon as you physically get the chance!

RIP ALL BRAS…TO THE DEATH!!

Voivod
are back with a release of their long lost demo sessions of 1984. Awesome. Thanks to Alternative Tentacles, and Jello Biafra insisting they give AT some music to release. Here we are with “To The Death ‘84” on LP. Excellent. Lucky for us!

What has the Fonz and Black Sabbath have to do with each other? They taught some of the band members English! Voivod busted out of some remote Morgoth Land place in northern Quebec and we are thankful, 30 years later they did that. Black thrash at it’s best. Check in with Voivod as soon as you physically get the chance. Merci. http://www.voivod.com/

Just Say Words - Paradise Lost vinyl collection (so far).

Just around the corner, the new Paradise Lost album ‘Tragic Idol’ will be out and I am eager to get my hands on that one as soon as I physically get the chance. The band are still going strong, OK, with a slight hic-cup during the ‘Host’ and ‘Believe in Nothing’ days.

They just toured Australia for the second time ever and it was excellent to see them again. Hope to see them in Europe this summer. You can always expect a great atmosphere on most PL releases. A dark bliss overcomes you and the density of their songs always reminds me they are one of a kind.

In 7 words: Deftones are excellent and you know it!

I hope no one thinks of the Deftones as Nu-metal, that is so retarded. They surely by now have shaken off the Nu metal shackles. Anyway, the band explore all kinds of sonic endeavours with layers and layers and I hope you enjoy Deftones as much as I do.

Put on your rocket skates as soon as you physically get then chance! I hope more 7” releases come out soon from the band/label, to complete the collection!

Rage against the barckles you goddamn son-of-a-bitch! DEERHOOF!

Deerhoof are a cool, wacky and innovative group from San Francisco. I like this band because they’re silly and from one of my favourite cities in the world. They create some noisy, weird type of rock and sound Japanese even! I dig it. Get some Deerhoof into you as soon as you physically get the chance!

Anneke Von Sibling? No, Anneke Van Giersbergen!

I bet most of you have your favourite singers, male and female. If you haven’t heard of the amazing Dutch girl Anneke Van Giersbergen then, do something about that as soon as you physically get the chance!

She’s unbelievably amazing. She is a marvellous talent. When she left The Gathering I was annoyed but she resurfaced with some excellent solo albums and collaborations with Moonspell, Devin Townsend and Anathema’s Danny Cavanaugh to name a few. What excites me is that she could pop up anywhere! On any album in any band! She is certainly one of the best vocalists out there!

THERE IS NO HOPE…WHY DON’T YOU….PULL THE PLUG!

First time I ever heard of Death, was when I was 14yrs old. Leprosy was the album and it blew my mind. I was singing the lyrics at school for days and days. I could never grow tired of their music. Death was something else entirely. There has never been anyone like Chuck (RIP).

So now, remaining members of Death, at various times, are coming together and doing a tour across the USA this year. No Chuck, but his legacy lives on I guess! Get some Death as soon as you physically get the chance and remember…there is no hope, why don’t you…PULL THE BRA, THROW THEM ALL AWAY!!

A Storm of Light. A Calm Before and After the Perfect Storm!!

Some great melodies, layers and layers and fuzzy drone goodness. If you like Neurosis, (and there is Josh from that band), you will like A Storm of Light. Fuck going on about it any more than I already have, give it a listen as soon as you physically get the chance and enjoy!

I chose a track off the latest album “As the Valley of Death Becomes Us, Our Silver Memories Fade” instead as I can’t fit a bloody great song off the album “Primitive North”. Oh yeah, also has Nadja members here to!!

Can I have a Dimmu Burger please and fries!!

Dimmu Borgir is a band people love or hate. I really don’t mind seeing a band go far out in the costume department. Good, because, it’s just some entertainment folks. Music is to be enjoyed.

Dimmu Borgir lost their amazing vocalist/bass player Vortex and I wondered how do you replace a guy like that, with a voice like his? He was one of a kind. The latest Dimmu album is not a masterpiece but still damn good.

Plus, the dude from Old Man’s Child is in this band and that’s a bonus!!!

This band goes OFF!

Keith Morris never Quits!! So good to see some KM action on stage again and even one of the Redd Kross dudes is on board. I only just sorta found out about OFF! a few months ago. Press play, jump OFF the sofa and stage dive into your kitchen cabinets as soon as you physically get the chance!!

OFF! will be in Australia this December. So cool. http://offofficial.com/

It is all the RAGE lately, I believe!!

I feel it was my duty to post a thing about the German metal band RAGE on here. It would be criminal not to. I am building on the collection of their records, over the many years, but, I wish I could lay my hands on their 1993 album “Missing Link”. I had to force myself to buy it on CD whilst in Japan a few years ago, but dammit…I want the vinyl version!!

With so many ‘classic’ metal albums being re-released on vinyl these days, I hope that some label, sometime soon, puts out their back catalogue soon!!

‘Missing Link’ is in my opinion, one of the all time great metal albums that is so overlooked it’s not funny and I hope you check it out as soon as you physically get the chance!! RAGE are all the rage!!
